May and Thomsons Pharmacy
A calmer working environment and more time for patients. At May and Thompson Pharmacy in Woking, these are among the changes the team has experienced since introducing Meditech automation.
Owned by Sunil Chandarana, the pharmacy has been in his family for over 40 years. Its recent relocation to larger premises, complete with six consultation rooms, created an opportunity to develop its services and rethink the daily dispensing workflow.
For Sunil, one of the most noticeable benefits is the atmosphere. Even during busy periods, he describes a pharmacy that feels calm and runs efficiently. Access to live stock information has also helped the team improve stock control.
Behind the scenes, deliveries are checked before being placed on a conveyor for automatic loading. The team requests medicines through its patient medication record system, and the robot retrieves the required packs. Dedicated channels hold frequently dispensed medicines, allowing these to be released without waiting for the robot’s picking arm.
Helen, a pharmacy technician and accuracy checker, highlights easier stock tracking and greater confidence in managing the daily workload. Completing dispensing tasks efficiently gives the team more time to support patients with services and advice.
For Jessica, a dispenser and healthcare assistant, that means more opportunities for health checks, blood pressure checks and meaningful conversations. She also values the responsive support she receives from the Meditech service team.
In this video, Sunil, Helen and Jessica share how automation supports their daily work and helps them focus on what matters most to them: patient care.
